Maid Marian, the Forest Queen, being a companion to “Robin Hood.”

Stocqueler, J. H. (Joachim Hayward) · 1849 · 34 pictures

Maid Marian, the Forest Queen (London, 1849), J. H. Stocqueler's cheap serial romance issued as a companion volume to his Robin Hood for a mass Victorian readership. Wood engravings set costumed outlaws, friars and ladies among heavy oak foliage: feathered caps, hounds, drawn swords, an outdoor banquet under a canopy, useful for foliage frames, grouped figures and period dress silhouettes.
