The plates are small oval stipple-and-line engraved bust portraits of Napoleonic-era officers and statesmen in braided, medalled uniforms and plumed bicornes, set against hatched grounds, often two to a page — usable as vignette frames, uniform detail, and period portrait silhouettes.
