Edwin William Streeter, a London jeweller, published this 1877 handbook on precious stones and gems for collectors, buyers and the trade, setting out each stone's history and identifying marks. The plates here are repeated engraved headpieces: a horned, bearded satyr mask on a stippled ground inside a stepped rectangular frame, flanked by acanthus scrolls and capped with small urns.
