Precious Stones and Gems ... Fifth edition, revised and largely rewritten, with chapters on the ruby mines of Burma
A revised fifth edition of Edwin William Streeter's gemology handbook, published by G. Bell & Sons in London in 1892 for jewellers, collectors and mineral traders, with added chapters on the Burmese ruby mines. The plates here are chapter-opening drop-cap initials: heavy blackletter and Renaissance-style letters set in strapwork frames with interlaced bands, hatched shading, foliate scrolls and punched diaper grounds, usable as standalone monogram motifs, ornamental panels or letterform reference.
