The Tour of Doctor Syntax: in search of the picturesque ... Fifth edition, with new plates. [By William Combe
A comic verse narrative by William Combe following a country schoolmaster's travels in search of picturesque scenery, published by Rudolph Ackermann in London in 1813 for a fashionable print-buying public. Thomas Rowlandson's hand-coloured aquatints stage caricatured figures in inns, churchyards, and open landscape, useful to designers for period costume, gesture-driven crowd scenes, horses, dogs, and captioned plate layouts.
