The Pictorial History of Scotland ... A.D. 79-1746. By J. Taylor, assisted by Professor Lindsay, Professor Eadie, J. Anderson, G. Macdonald, and other contributors
A multi-volume popular history of Scotland from AD 79 to 1746, written by James Taylor with Professors Lindsay and Eadie and other contributors, and issued by Virtue & Co. in London in 1884 for general Victorian readers. The plates are steel-engraved half-length portraits of kings, nobles and churchmen, many in ruled oval frames on blank mounts, with long curled periwigs, lace cravats, armour and draped cloaks against dark tonal grounds; useful for engraved faces, oval frame devices and costume detail.
