The Works of William Makepeace Thackeray. [Library Edition
A volume of the 1869 Library Edition of Thackeray's collected works, published in London by Smith, Elder and Co. for middle-class subscribers, illustrated by the author himself with signed pen drawings. The pictures are loose pen-and-ink vignettes of Victorian figures in frock coats, top hats and crinolines, including historiated initial letters built from small figures, oval crowd scenes, and full-page plates of drawing-room confrontations, useful for drop caps and figure silhouettes.
