The Seasons
James Thomson's eighteenth-century poem cycle The Seasons, edited by Allan Cunningham and reissued by Chatto & Windus in London in 1892 for Victorian readers of illustrated verse. Forty-six soft wood-engraved vignettes show poplars and willows by water, fowlers and reapers, courting couples in period dress, and a seated lutenist, all with pale open skies and irregular foliage edges useful as cut-out spot art.
