Memoir upon the Light-House Illumination of the Coasts of France. By Léonce Reynaud ... Translated ... by Rear Admiral Thornton A. Jenkins
A technical memoir on lighthouse optics written by the French engineer Léonce Reynaud and translated in 1871 by Rear Admiral Thornton A. Jenkins for American lighthouse engineers and naval officers. The plates are fine-line geometric diagrams — parabolic curves, dotted ray traces bouncing off prisms, small engraved lamp burners and flames, and a lobed intensity curve on a graduated axis — useful for sparse diagrammatic line work, letter-labelled construction lines, and figures that mix optical geometry with a small piece of rendered hardware.
