A popular history of United States naval engagements from 1794 onward, compiled by H. Kimball and published by Charles Gaylord in Boston in 1837 for general American readers. Twenty wood engravings, printed sideways on the page with captions naming each pair of combatants, show square-rigged frigates exchanging fire under banked clouds and smoke, with usable silhouettes of masts, sails and rigging.
