Eighty Years' Progress of the United States: a family record of American industry, energy and enterprise ... By eminent literary men [C. L. Flint and others] ... Embellished with ... engravings, etc

1868 · 79 pictures

A popular survey of American industry and invention published in 1868, written by several hands including the agriculturist Charles L. Flint and sold to general family readers as a record of national progress. The wood engravings show early locomotives, horse-drawn passenger cars, rail yards, crowds of onlookers and factory machinery in clear outline with light hatching, giving designers period transport silhouettes and small figure groups that cut out cleanly.
