A journey from London to Persepolis; including wanderings in Daghestan, Georgia, Armenia ... With numerous coloured illustrations
A Victorian overland travel narrative by John Ussher, published in London in 1865, recording a journey through Daghestan, Georgia, Armenia and Persia to Persepolis for British armchair readers. The tinted lithographic plates are wide, low-horizon landscapes in pale ochre, green and grey washes, showing walled hill towns, river gorges, ruin mounds and camel parties dwarfed by mountains, useful for muted colour palettes, empty skies and small silhouetted figure groups.
