A multi-volume popular history of Austria issued in 1865 by the Verein zur Verbreitung von Druckschriften für Volksbildung, written to put national history in the hands of ordinary readers. Its plates are line reproductions of seventeenth-century copperplates: bird's-eye battle scenes with smoke plumes, block formations of pikemen and lettered keys along the lower edge, plus panoramic town prospects with foreground trees and framed coats of arms — useful for hatched landscape texture, troop-block patterning and annotated map legends.
