Historia de Salamanca
A three-volume municipal history of Salamanca written by Manuel Villar y Macías and printed in Spain in 1887 for local readers, antiquarians and subscribers. The plates shown are wood-engraved typographic ornaments rather than views: horizontal headbands of winged grotesques, masks and putti in strapwork frames, and symmetrical tailpieces of dotted vine scrollwork around a wreathed centre, usable as rules, dividers and frame borders.
