Fireside Tales
Fireside Tales collects Edwin Waugh's Lancashire dialect stories, issued in 1885 by the Manchester popular publisher A. Heywood & Son for a local general readership. The pictures are small pen-and-ink chapter initials in which the letter is built from bare twigs and branches, set against hatched vignettes of a church spire among trees, a wooded riverbank with birds, and clumps of grass and foliage.
