The Life of Our Blessed Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ. An heroic poem ... Illustrated by necessary notes ... also a prefatory discourse concerning heroic poetry. With sixty copper-plates [by William Faithorne
A biblical heroic poem in sixty books-worth of English verse by Samuel Wesley the Elder, printed in London in 1693 by Charles Harper and Benjamin Motte with sixty copper-plates engraved by William Faithorne, aimed at devout readers of religious poetry. The plates are upright Baroque figure scenes after Continental painting, crowded with draped apostles, soldiers and onlookers set among Corinthian columns, coffered arches and stairs, all built from fine engraved hatching and lit by descending rays; useful for classical architectural backdrops, robed crowd groupings and small keyed caption lines set into the lower margin.
