Memorials of Edinburgh in the olden time
Daniel Wilson's antiquarian survey of Edinburgh's old town, published in Edinburgh in 1848 for local historians and readers interested in buildings then being demolished. The 121 plates and in-text wood engravings record tall rubble tenements, turnpike stairs, crow-stepped gables, courtyards and closes, with small groups of figures, carts and shop signs at street level; useful for vernacular architectural detail, textured stonework hatching and compact street vignettes.
