In the Black Forest
A Victorian travel narrative of the German Black Forest by Charles William Wood, editor of The Argosy, published in London by Richard Bentley & Son in 1882 for British readers of illustrated tour writing. The 43 wood-engraved plates are captioned topographical views — Allerheiligen, St. Blasien, Gutachthal, Gutenbach near Triberg — with fine hatched foliage, shingled and half-timbered houses stepping down hillsides, and pale open skies; useful for vignette landscape borders, fern and conifer foregrounds, and village silhouettes.
