Wood-Side and Sea-Side. Illustrated by pen and pencil
An 1869 London gift anthology of verse and prose about woods and shores, quoting poets such as W. C. Bryant and set with wood-engraved vignettes by pen-and-pencil illustrators. The plates are tonal landscapes — leaning trunks over still water, arched canopies framing distant valleys, a small dark figure on a fallen log — useful for vignette shapes, open-sky negative space and fine crosshatched foliage texture.
