A one-volume anthology of tales, legends and traditions issued by Cassell & Co. in London in 1892 for general family reading, illustrated throughout by staff engravers including R. B. Mollard. The 181 pictures are pen-and-ink line drawings and wood-engraved plates with quoted captions: cloaked night figures over a garden trellis, a boy pulled through a window, a crowned woman with a kneeling suitor, travellers among rocks, leaving usable silhouettes, hatching textures and figure groupings.
