The Fife and Drum; or, would be a soldier
A boys' adventure novel by Sir Frederick Charles Lascelles Wraxall, published in London in 1863 for young readers drawn to military life abroad. Small wood-engraved chapter vignettes show elephant processions under parasols, sailing ships in harbour and heavy seas, and mounted skirmishes with bugler and lance, mostly vignetted with soft edges that fade into the page.
