China: in a series of views, displaying the scenery, architecture and social habits of that ancient empire. Drawn ... by T. Allom. With historical and descriptive notices by the Rev. G. N. Wright
A four-volume British topographical survey of China, drawn by Thomas Allom from other travellers' sketches and annotated by the Rev. G. N. Wright, issued in London in 1858 for armchair readers of the treaty-port era. Steel engravings show pagodas, temple courts, garden pavilions and crowded river landings, with staffage figures and foliage framing distant hills: sources for architectural silhouettes and figure groups.
