History of the People of the Netherlands ... Translated by O. A. Bierstadt and Ruth Putnam
A multi-volume national history by the Dutch historian Pieter Johan Blok, translated by O. A. Bierstadt and Ruth Putnam and issued by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1898 for English-reading students of European history. The plates here are not scenes but printer's ornaments: symmetrical headpieces and tailpieces of fine-line scrollwork, acanthus volutes, shells and small crowned finials, usable as chapter dividers, frame elements or vector motifs once cleaned of surrounding type.
