A Dutch emblem book of moral and devotional verse by Jan Claeszoon Schaep, printed in Amsterdam by Jacob ter Beek in 1724 with engraved plates by Jan Lamsvelt, aimed at pious readers seeking lessons in conduct. The small horizontal engravings set one or two figures in seventeenth-century hats, coats and boots against open country with round towers, farmsteads and distant walkers, framed by a leaning tree and dense foreground weeds; useful for period costume, gesturing figures, and compact landscape vignettes with deep hatched skies.
