Annual exhibition [electronic resource] : no jury, no prizes

Society of Independent Artists (New York, N.Y.) · 1917 · New York, N.Y. : The Society · 47 pictures

Exhibition catalogue for the Society of Independent Artists' first annual show in New York, 1917, issued without jury or prizes for exhibitors, buyers, and critics. Halftone plates reproduce paintings in soft grey tonal ranges: seated portraits against patterned wallpaper, women at mirrors and bedsides, reclining nudes, useful as sources of muted figure studies and blurred interior atmosphere.
