The Birger Sandz©♭n exhibition [electronic resource]

Babcock Galleries, American-Scandinavian Foundation · 1922 · New York : The Babcock gallery · 10 pictures

An exhibition catalogue for the American-Scandinavian Foundation's 1922 showing of Kansas painter Birger Sandzén at the Babcock Galleries in New York, with an essay by Christian Brinton, aimed at collectors and gallery visitors. Halftone plates and a small wood engraving reproduce oil landscapes of rock spires, wind-bent pines and boulder slopes in heavy black impasto against pale skies, giving designers high-contrast textural masses, stippled and striated cloud bands, and blunt silhouettes.
