Bobbins of Belgium; a book of Belgian lace, lace-workers, lace-schools and lace-villages
Charlotte Kellogg's 1920 account of Belgian lace, its workers, schools and villages, published in New York and London by Funk & Wagnalls in support of wartime relief through the Brussels Lace Committee. Halftone plates show lace specimens photographed flat against black grounds — Bruges bobbin edgings, Rosaline, Duchesse, and an armorial panel with ferns, shields and medallions — alongside documentary views of girls at lace pillows in classrooms, giving designers white filigree motifs, scalloped borders and repeating band patterns.
