Achillis Bocchii Bonon. Symbolicarvm quaestionvm de vniverso genere qvas serio lvdebat libri qvinqve
A Latin emblem book by the Bolognese humanist Achille Bocchi, printed at his own Accademia Bocchiana press in 1555 for scholarly readers, with engravings by Giulio Bonasone after designs by Prospero Fontana and Parmigianino. The small upright copperplates set nude and armoured allegorical figures, winged spirits, gods in clouds and inscribed stone tablets against ruined classical architecture and distant walled towns, drawn in fine open hatching that suits enlargement, cut-out figures or line-based motif work.
