Bookbindings and rubbings of bindings in the National Art Library, South Kensington Museum
A descriptive catalogue of bookbindings and rubbings in the National Art Library, compiled by W. H. James Weale and printed for H. M. Stationery Office in London in 1898 for curators, collectors and binders. The wood-engraved cuts isolate single binding stamps and panel fragments — heart-shaped and lozenge-shaped fleuron tools, interlaced strapwork, hatched acanthus sprays, crowned heraldic shields with initials — small black-and-white units suited to ornament libraries, borders, repeat patterns and pressmark-style marks.
