The book: its printers, illustrators, and binders, from Gutenberg to the present time
A survey history of printing, illustration and bookbinding from Gutenberg onward, written by the French bibliographer Henri Bouchot, edited by E. C. Bigmore and issued in New York by Scribner and Welford in 1890 for collectors and students of the book trade. Its plates are line facsimiles of incunabula woodcuts, blockbook pages, engraved title borders and printers' devices, plus photographic reproductions of tooled leather bindings, giving designers ready-made frames, cartouches, armorial panels and dense ornamental borders.
