Book of the knowledge of all the kingdoms, lands, and lordships that are in the world
A 1912 Hakluyt Society edition, translated by Clements R. Markham from Marcos Jiménez de la Espada's text, of a fourteenth-century Spanish Franciscan's survey of the world's kingdoms, issued in London for the society's subscribing geographers and historians. The plates are flat colour drawings of armorial banners with pointed fly ends, filled with crosses, crescents, stripes, checks and single beasts in vermilion, green and grey against cream, useful as hard-edged heraldic shapes, cross variants and two-colour pattern fields.
