The book of similitudes:
An emblem book of moral and religious "similitudes" compiled and engraved by John Warner Barber, published for the author in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1860 for Protestant readers and Sunday-school teaching. Wood engravings set allegorical figures in labeled roundels and octagons: toppling columns marked with empires, personified vices as animals, flames and banners lettered with names and captions.
