The binding of books; an essay in the history of gold-tooled bindings
Herbert Horne's 1894 history of gold-tooled bookbinding, issued in London by Kegan Paul for collectors, bibliophiles and practising binders, with notes by Cobden-Sanderson and Douglas Cockerell. Plates reproduce whole covers in photographic halftone: blind- and gold-tooled leather panels, strapwork and arabesque borders, corner ornaments, centre medallions and armorial stamps, useful as sources for repeating frames, interlace patterns and cartouche shapes.
