Brick and marble in the Middle Ages: notes of a tour in the north of Italy
George Edmund Street's 1855 account of a study tour through northern Italy, published by John Murray in London for English architects and Gothic Revival builders studying brick and marble construction. Wood engravings, many cut by Orlando Jewitt, show windows, arcades, capitals and cornices in hard outline with hatched shadows and carefully drawn brick coursing, giving usable patterns of arch, tracery and corbel detail.
