British miniature painters and their works
A survey of British miniature painting by collector Joshua James Foster, published in London in 1898 for connoisseurs, collectors and dealers. Halftone plates reproduce oval portrait miniatures — heads and busts in lace collars, ruffs and loose drapery — some shown inside carved or beaded frames, with coarse screen grain and deep blacks useful for vignettes, cameo shapes and portrait cut-outs.
