Browere's life masks of great Americans
An 1899 study by Charles Henry Hart of the plaster life masks John Henri Isaac Browere took from American statesmen and citizens in the 1820s, printed at the De Vinne Press in New York for collectors and students of American sculpture and portraiture. Halftone photographs show each bust against plain or black grounds in profile and three-quarter view, giving designers sharp-lit heads, bald and long-haired skull shapes, draped shoulders, and ruled plate borders.
