Bryan's dictionary of painters and engravers
A multi-volume biographical dictionary of painters and engravers, first compiled by Michael Bryan and revised by George C. Williamson for Macmillan in 1903, intended as a reference for collectors, dealers, and art students. The plates are halftone reproductions of European paintings — sacra conversazione altarpieces, crowded outdoor figure scenes, nativities and deathbed groups — printed dark and soft, useful as period painting references, silhouetted figure groups, and architectural niche and apse details.
