Magasin d'education et de recréation
A French family magazine for children and young readers, edited by Jules Verne and Jean Macé and issued by Hetzel in Paris from 1864. Wood-engraved vignettes mix light pen-drawn headpieces of scrolling foliage and cupids with denser, closely hatched narrative scenes in oval and ruled frames, giving designers ready-made ornaments, allegorical panels and small figure groups.
