An archaeological and art-historical study by Franz Bock, printed at Aachen in 1896, examining the Byzantine cloisonné enamels in Dr. Alexander von Zvenigorodskoi's collection for scholars of medieval metalwork and Christian art. The 72 plates are halftone photographs and line engravings of reliquary crosses, hinged triptychs, enamelled medallions and book covers, giving haloed saints in frontal poses, Greek inscriptions, cross-in-lozenge geometry and repeating quatrefoil and palmette borders usable as ornament.
