The cabinet-maker and upholsterer's companion ... and a number of receipts ..

Stokes, J · 1850 · Philadephia, H. C. Baird · 7 pictures

A trade manual for cabinetmakers and upholsterers by J. Stokes, published in Philadelphia by H. C. Baird in 1850, combining instruction in construction and finishing with workshop recipes for the working shop. The plates are thin-line engraved drawings of carved ornament—anthemion and palmette fans, rosettes in ruled circles, a lidded urn—drawn with light shading and construction guides, useful as clean outline motifs, borders, and repeatable furniture details.
