Il cannocchiale aristotelico, o sia, Idea dell'arguta et ingeniosa elocutione : che serue à tutta l'arte oratoria, lapidaria, et simbolica
Emanuele Tesauro's Il cannocchiale aristotelico, a 1663 Venetian treatise printed by Paolo Baglioni on wit, metaphor and emblematic invention, aimed at orators, emblem writers and designers of mottoes and inscriptions. The plates in the index are woodcut initial letters, mostly white-line capitals set in beds of acanthus scrollwork with winged putti, masks and grotesque figures filling the counters, usable as drop caps or as sources for small ornament and border motifs.
