The castles, palaces, and prisons of Mary of Scotland
Charles Mackie's 1850 London antiquarian survey of the Scottish castles, palaces and prisons associated with Mary, Queen of Scots, written for Victorian readers of history and topography. Wood engravings and steel plates show fortified gatehouses, ruined towers, church interiors, tombs and distant town views, some framed by engraved foliate borders useful as vignette frames, architectural silhouettes and textured stonework.
