Wood engravings signed by cutters such as W. E. Rice and Taylor show single chairs in three-quarter view, each with turned stretchers, crossed legs, fringed seats, and upholstery panels of floral needlework, giving designers isolated furniture silhouettes and dense hatched texture on plain grounds.
