An illustrated auction catalogue for the sale of a private collection of old master and nineteenth-century paintings, drawings and watercolours, prepared by the experts Chevallier, Mannheim and Berthaud for Galerie Georges Petit in Paris in 1896 and aimed at collectors and dealers. The plates are photogravure reproductions of single pictures on plain pages, mostly soft-toned landscapes with water and trees, rural figures at work, and a crowded bullring, useful as ready-made grey-scale tonal imagery and as framed vignettes.
