Catalogue illustré
The annually issued illustrated catalogue of the Paris Salon of 1879, edited by F. G. Dumas and published by Ludovic Baschet for exhibition visitors, buyers, and the artists themselves. Its 517 plates are pen-and-ink sketches made by the exhibitors after their own paintings and sculpture — seated portraits, cattle under trees, peasant genre, reclining women — drawn in loose crosshatching on open white grounds, useful as line-art figures and vignettes.
