Catalogue of samplers, with 16 illustrations
A 1922 Victoria and Albert Museum departmental catalogue of its sampler collection, printed for H.M. Stationery Office in London for museum visitors, collectors and needleworkers. The sixteen halftone plates photograph seventeenth- and eighteenth-century embroidered linens, showing banded borders, cross-stitch alphabets and numerals, flowering trees in urns, birds, geometric medallions and blackwork lace fillings, all usable as grid-based pattern, lettering and repeat-border sources.
