Smith, John, dealer in pictures · 1908 · London : Sands · 6 pictures

A multi-volume catalogue raisonné of Dutch, Flemish and French painters compiled by the London picture dealer John Smith, reissued by Sands in 1908 for collectors, dealers and connoisseurs tracking attributions, provenance and sale prices. The plates are soft-focus halftone reproductions of oil paintings — a plumed-hat portrait of a young woman, a family group, an altarpiece of angels and martyrdom, and a crowded garden fête — offering Baroque figure poses, costume detail and heavy tonal modelling.
