Smith, John, dealer in pictures · 1908 · London : Sands · 6 pictures

A dealer's catalogue raisonné of Dutch, Flemish and French painters compiled by the London picture dealer John Smith, reissued by Sands in 1908 for collectors, auction houses and connoisseurs tracking attributions and sale prices. The plates are soft halftone reproductions of old master landscapes — avenues of thin-trunked trees, canal towns under towering cloud banks, moonlit rivers and figures resting by a bridge — usable as tonal skies, silhouetted tree lines and hazy atmospheric backdrops.
