Catalogues of exhibitions
Bound exhibition catalogues issued by the Copley Society of Boston around 1900, printed by G. H. Ellis for members and gallery visitors as a record of loan shows of painting. The plates are halftone reproductions of eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century English portraits and miniatures, mostly women and children in oval or rectangular frames, with soft graduated tone, dark backgrounds and pale muslin dresses useful for vignette portraiture and tonal texture.
