Catalogues of exhibitions
Bound exhibition catalogues issued by the Copley Society of Boston and printed by G.H. Ellis from 1900 onward, listing loan and members' shows for the society's subscribers and gallery visitors. The plates are coarse-screen halftones of paintings and objects on view — a faceted Cubist seated figure, thickly painted flower and table still lifes, a figure with raised arms, stacked open illuminated manuscripts — all reduced to grainy grey masses useful as soft-edged texture, silhouette studies, or blurred period reproduction stock.
